Crochet pattern for kids afghan…?

Years ago, my grandma crocheted an afghan for each of her grandkids. The afghans were so cute, because each of the squares made up a part of a large picture…Mine was 2 cats watching a bird in a tree.
Does anyone know what this type of afghan was called, and where can I get a pattern so I can make one for my little girl?

The pattern is in The Great Granny Crochet Book which is available in the rare book section of Barnes and Noble. I made one, but I made my cats standing.
