Photo to cross stitch chart conversion?

Has anyone done one of these in the past. Which company or software did you use? What count of fabric did you stitch it on and how many colours of thread were used in the design. Interested in any views you have on this subject thanks.

I use a program by Jane Greenoff called crossstitch designer. You can choose your fabric, number of colours and count of fabric. I havent used it to do photos yet but I have done a couple of large designs of my own and it works great for me!
