I have NO idea what these knitting instruction mean (I know knit & purl stitch) – Help, please?
I’d really appreciate it if someone would translate these into regular English sentences for me.
Stitches Used:
Pattern Stitch: Wavy Rib
Rows 1, 3, 5, 13, 15, and 17: K3, (p2, k2) 6 times, end k1
Row 2 and All Even Rows: K the knit sts and p the purl stitches______ I thought k meant knit and p meant purl; so what does knit the the knit sts and purl the putl stitches mean (bc it sounds very redundant)?
Rows 7, 9, and 11: K3, (p6, k2) 3 times, end k1
Rows 19, 21, and 23: K3, p2, (k2, p6) twice, k2, p2, k3
Row 24: Same as row 2
Rep Rows 1-24 for pattern
Instructions:
1. Loosely cast on 28 stitches and work Wavy Rib pat. until scarf measures approx. 60 inches, ending with Rows 1-6.
2. Loosely bind off all sts in pat.
You are right – k means knit and p means purl.
A knit and a purl are opposites of each other.
The back side of a knit is a purl and the back side of a purl is a knit. Look at your work and you will see what I am telling you.
When the instructions tell you to knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches, that means you are going to do the opposite of what you did the previous row. If you knit a row and then turn your work around the row you completed will look like purl stitches. So you would then purl the new row – you would be purling your purl stitches.
The pattern you are trying to make is not that difficult but you will have to keep track of what row you are on so here goes:
Loosely cast on 28 stitches.
Row 1: K3, (p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2) k1
Row 2: P1 (p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2)(p2,k2) p3
Row 3: repeat Row 1
Row 4: repeat Row 2
Row 5: repeat Row 1
Row 6: repeat Row 2
Row 7: K3, (p6,k2)(p6,k2)(p6,k2) k1
Row 8: P1, (p2,k6)(p2,k6)(p2,k6) p3
Row 9: repeat Row 7
Row 10: repeat Row 8
Row 11: repeat Row 7
Row 12: repeat Row 8
Row 13: repeat Row 1
Row 14: repeat Row 2
Row 15: repeat Row 1
Row 16: repeat Row 2
Row 17: repeat Row 1
Row 18: repeat Row 2
Row 19: K3, p2, (k2,p6)(k2,p6) k2, p2, k3
Row 20: P3, k2, p2, (k6, p2)(k6,p2) k2, p3
Row 21: repeat Row 19
Row 22: repeat Row 20
Row 23: repeat Row 19
Row 24: repeat Row 20
Repeat Rows 1 through 24 until scarf measures approximately 60 inches or desired length, ending with rows 1 – 6 . Bind off all stitches in pattern.
