What is a simple way to create a pattern for a knitted dishcloth?

I’ve tried using graph paper, but to no avail. I’ve heard there is a program you can use…any ideas?

There is a free software program available at www.greatknitdesigns called skirts & shawls which allows you to design and print a pattern for what you want. It can be used for knitting and crochet pattern design. You can always try it.
