Using an awl for leather?
I have my own, easy punch. I am making moccasins. I plan on using braided line for sewing tough parts instead of waxed thread. Do you have easy tricks to make awl use less cumbersome? I like awl working, but seems there must be an easier way.
If you mean getting the thread through pre punched holes try this.
Use two needles or bodkins, one at each end of the length of line.
put the line through the first hole, then use the needles, one from each side in the next and subsequent holes, you can even knot them if you want.
A pair of medium sized pliers is helpful, also grip the work in a clean vice if you can.
With a bit of practise I think you will get quite fast.
Or go to a cobbler and buy some shoe polish or laces and pick his brains,
